It’s a bit of a tourist cliché, but don’t miss a stroll down Promenade des Anglais, a wide boardwalk running alongside the pebbly beaches of Nice.
Promenade des Anglais — La Prom for short — is something of a main artery for Nice. Most of its attractions branch from it, which makes it a great way to get acquainted with the city. You don’t have to walk — bicycles, rollerblades, and skateboards are also welcome on its broad pavement.
It’s also the focal point for the Nice Carnival, the Mardi Gras of the French Riviera and one of the world’s most visited carnivals. This raucous event features floats, dancers, musicians and “flower battles” (where floats adorned with flowers pass by and costumed characters toss flowers at the crowd).
