Nothing introduces the world to the French way of life quite like a trip to a Parisian market on a long, slow morning.
Cobblestone streets lead the way to delicious artisanal cheeses, fresh seasonal produce, succulent meats, and of course, a veritable river of wine. Few people rush through the shopping experience here; market strolls are meant to be savored. Think of it as the first course of the delectable meal to follow!
The iconic Marche d’Aligre in the 12th arrondissement is one of the city’s most popular markets, a rightful tourist attraction that is well worth a visit.
But here in the 18th arrondissement, home of our Le Tresor du Montmartre apartment rental, several food markets provide delectable produce and goods primarily to the locals who live here. These grocers are smaller and quainter than the Marche d’Aligre, but offer their share of a copious harvest.
Marché Barbès
The buzzing sounds of community fill this outdoor market, where you’ll find piles of crisp herbs, fresh fish and heavenly pastries. A large selection of African treats and goods can also be found here, as well, so you’re sure to find something unique.
This is one of our favorite markets: grab a snack to enjoy while wandering around, or select ingredients for a gourmet dinner at home.
