Every year after the fireworks and Bastille Day celebrations the fun continues at various Fire Stations around Paris.
Bastille Day is July 14, 2016. Celebrated in Paris with a parade along the Champs-Elysées http://bit.ly/1LWsh0Q and a grand fireworks show near the Eiffel Tower and the Trocadéro gardens http://bit.ly/29nUCEr .
Fireworks: Start at 11pm for about 35 min – subject to weather. Best place to watch is from the middle of the Champs de Mars just south of the tower – metro line 8, stop La Tour-Maubourg or Ecole Militaire and walk to where avenue du Général Margueritte meets the center on the Champs de Mars. If you go with a group, go early [3pm], take a large blanket to stake out your space – umbrella for shade, lots of food, water and wine in plastic bottle [glass not allowed], reading matter, games – it will be a long wait until 11pm! Plenty of food vendors and toilets within reach. Once the show starts be ready to leave. The police will direct the crowds to various metro stations – it will be a zoo but you’ll get a train eventually. A great alternative is to go up to Sacre Cœur – again you will have to be early to get best spot but it’s a easier location to reach & exit. http://bit.ly/29twL7J
Of course if you are really in the party mood then you will head to one of the many Bals des Pompiers [Fireman’s Ball]. These are parties at various fire stations around town on July 13 and 14 July see here for the list of locations http://bit.ly/1CWzOaN . The fun starts at 9 pm and lasts until about 4am. Be ready for champagne, music, dancing and a small ‘donation’ to enter. Ladies be prepared for a kiss or 2 from one or more of the friendly pompiers – they are some of the most fit and handsome men in France! Enjoy
